Family, Friends, Fighting and Food

May 16, 2016

Today we have a very special guest for you all. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, head coach at the London Fight Factory gym here in the UK, and the major papa himself Luiz "Manxinha" Ribeiro.

We discuss his journey from white to purple belt, spanning multiple continents, multiple teachers and multiple crazy situations.

What started as a quest for a Motorola Startac mobile phone and a Vauxhall Corsa evolved into a journey through martial arts that has since touched many peoples lives.

It's intense, complicated, sometimes hilarious and sometimes tragic, but it's an uplifting and amazing story. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Today's special guest is our good friend, training partner and sometimes coach Jeremy "Ninja" Petley who is a pro MMA fighter training at the well known London Fight Factory gym based in the UK.

Shrek is love, Shrek is life. A strange motto to live by but one in which Jeremy tries his hardest to honour. As well as discussing the finer points of disturbing internet videos, we chat about reasons for fighting, the effect it has on our families and friends and what keeps us going.

Being a competitive athlete is an interesting dichotomy. On the one hand you can push yourself to do something only a small percentage of the population does physically and mentally. On the other hand that also essentially means that apart from competition days and the odd weekend, you generally feel sore, hungry and beat up.

This week Helene vents her frustrations at her current injury. It was a tough one to record, but we're glad we did.

We also touch on how to deal with people when giving them bad news. Helene shares some French management techniques, and as you might imagine, they aren't incredibly subtle...!

In this episode we have a look at Helene's recent trip to Paris to visit a long time friend. We take a look at creativity and where it comes from, is it nature or nurture?

The comfort zone is a place we absolutely love (obviously...) but absolutely force ourselves out of as much as possible. This episode we have a look at why that is, and ways that you can too in order to grow, learn and develop!

We also spend a good time talking shit and dealing with Helene's rudeness...hope you enjoy!
